does not hurt
My son is 6 years old .still has baby teeth, adult teeth growing in behind. is this bad.?
It is very common (and normal) for the four lower incisors (front ones) to come in behind the baby teeth. I worked in paediatric dental offices for over 30 years and we must get 3 phone calls each week from parents concerned about this. Are the baby teeth loose at all? It%26#039;s OK to wiggle the baby teeth and help them along. Once the baby teeth fall out, the tongue and swallowing will help push the permanent teeth forward into the arch form.
Many general dentists will take out these baby teeth because the parents are worried about the double row. Often this is the first visit for some children and it is a very traumatic one and causes them to fear going to the dentist.
One other thing though, ONLY in the lower front is it normal for the teeth to erupt behind. Anywhere else, if the permanent tooth hasn%26#039;t come out, then the baby tooth may need some help.
Reply:this will make his teeth crooked.this is why my grandma my would yank my baby teeth out.
Reply:No this is not bad and it is extremely common. The worst news I have for you is that your child will probably have difficulty shedding some of his baby teeth. This is because it is the pressure of an adult tooth erupting underneath a baby tooth that pushes the baby tooth out. When it is time (and your dentist will determine that), the baby teeth that are not shed naturally will have to be removed. After that, pressure from your son%26#039;s tongue will likely be sufficient to push the adult teeth into alignment. If not, there is always braces.
The best thing you can do for your child is to NOT let on that anything is going on. Hide your anxiety. Kids pick up on that very easily.
Book a consultation with your dentist so she can take some orthodontic measurements and to document a game plan.
As for you, relax. A competent, compassionate dentist can easily and comfortably manage your child.
