My 5 month old puppy has both baby teeth and adult teeth in the top front of her mouth. Is this Normal?

Not normal,but it does happen ,especially in toy breeds.If the baby teeth don%26#039;t fall out on their own soon,you need to have them pulled as they will cause food to become stuck in the teeth ,causing bad breath and tooth and gum disease when the dog is older.Like another person suggested, ,just have it done when you have the pup spayed or neutered(it%26#039;s time to do that now).

this is normall for some breeds of puppies. the best thing for the puppy is to give it something hard to chew on this will loosen the baby teeth and will help them to fall out.
Reply:Cecil is right. Some breeds are just that way and usually chewing will help the puppy lose the baby teeth. If you ever get a chance, get a look at a human child who has loose baby teeth. With permission of mom of course. You will notice that sometimes you can see the top of the adult tooth while the baby tooth has not yet fallen out.


You have nothing to worry about although do not try to remove the tooth from your puppy yourself. If it seems to be problematic for your puppy to eat, take him to your vet and have the baby tooth removed.

Reply:Nope, puppies usually lose their baby(deciduous) teeth between 4-6 months old. If they do not fall out soon they need to be removed by a vet. This is usually a good thing to do when they are under anesthesia being spayed or neutered
Reply:I assume it is normal. My puppy is a 4 month old west highland terrier and just in a couple of weeks he lost two baby teeth on top and has three new teeth growing on the bottom. Get your puppy some rubber like toys. They have a selected variety at Petco.

Reply:I%26#039;ve seen it frequently in small breeds (I have Chihuahuas). In all but one dog, they eventually fell out on their own. With the last puppy I had, it took many months for her to lose the baby fangs. I often cleaned out between the baby fang and the adult tooth so that it wouldn%26#039;t rot the adult tooth and eventually it came out (I think around 8-9 months or so). However, if you are getting the dog spayed or neutered soon (assuming that you haven%26#039;t already done it), they can easily take the baby teeth out at that time and you don%26#039;t have to have them put under just for teeth (cheaper for you and easier on the dog).
